MunozIACPSPRINGFIELD- State Senator Antonio “Tony” Munoz was named Public Official of the Year for 2015 by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police. Munoz was honored at the association’s annual reception on Wednesday, April 13.

“As a former police officer, I understand the difficulties that law enforcement face, especially in today’s world,” Munoz said. “It’s important that we keep working toward keeping our officers safe as they work to keep our communities safe. I’m committed to supporting our police officers, and I’m grateful for their constant sacrifice.”

Munoz041216SPRINGFIELD - Service members looking to obtain college credit for military courses may soon have an easier process when transferring credits to a public university or community college in Illinois, under a Senate plan that was approved in committee today.

The proposal, which passed the higher education committee unanimously, requires the state’s public universities and community colleges to develop a written policy for awarding college credit for military courses taken through the Armed Forces.

Munoz 040616SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Antonio “Tony” Munoz (D-Chicago) is leading legislation that would allow the Chicago Police Department to move their criminal offender registration location. Senate Bill 3354 gives the superintendent of the department the ability to choose a new fixed location to conduct registrations.

Currently, state law requires any person ordered to register as an arsonist, sex offender or violent offender against youth to do so at the Public Safety Headquarters, a location that poses security concerns for the police department due to its proximity to a school and public library.
