Assistant Majority Leader Tony Munoz (D-Chicago) and Omega Delta Youth Baseball and Softball are hosting a holiday event at the Hoyne Park Field House (3417 S. Hamilton) on December 14 from 12 to 5 p.m.
MCKINLEY PARK – Assistant Majority Leader Tony Muñoz recently hosted his 3rd Annual Fishing Derby at McKinley Park to encourage Chicago children to learn to fish and enjoy the outdoors.
“Growing up, I never learned how to fish, and I like to be able to give the children in my district the opportunity to learn and have fun doing it,” Muñoz said. “Our volunteers do an amazing job of getting them prepared and out there fishing.”
Fifty-five children participated in the competition for most fish caught, biggest fish caught and smallest fish caught.
The winners for the 7-10 age category were as follows: Benjamin Hernandez for most fish caught with 52 fish, Cole Radejewski for biggest fish caught at one pound and Calia Tse for smallest fish caught. The winners for the 11-13 age category were as follows: Joshua Phengsomphon for most fish caught with 23 fish, Zef Moyer for biggest fish caught at 3.5 pounds and David Skibinski for smallest fish caught.
Participants were also entered into a free raffle. Muñoz raffled off two bicycles, gift cards, five fishing rods, tackle boxes and a bike repair certificate.
Muñoz had 28 volunteers that helped make the event possible.
