Fair tax infographicFacebook ImageSPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Senate approved a constitutional amendment that would allow the state to implement a Fair Tax structure on Wednesday. Assistant Majority Leader Tony Munoz (D-Chicago) released the following statement after the vote:

“The people in my district want to see better schools, improved roads and economic development and for years they have invested more of their hard-earned money on those services than the millionaires and billionaires living just down the street.

“This is a step to ending that inequity, and I’m looking forward to seeing the support from voters on this important change.”

Senate Joint Resolution Constitutional Amendment 1 removes the requirement for a flat income tax rate currently in the Illinois Constitution. The legislation awaits approval from the House before it can be put before voters on the 2020 election ballot.
