102114MunozPNCCSenator Tony Munoz (D-Chicago) joined a number of legislators and members of the Pilsen community on Tuesday at The National Museum of Mexican Art to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Pilsen Community Council.

PNCC is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to establish policies and practices in the Pilsen and Southwest areas of Chicago to bring about justice and equity by investing in the development of community leaders and pastors through leadership training and action.

PNCC works with groups or in "core teams" in specific areas of Chicago to organize around education reform, workforce development, healthcare, immigration reform and public safety on local, state and national levels.

BullyingAwareness2014October is Bullying Prevention Awareness Month. It’s also the perfect time to learn about efforts to reduce and prevent bullying.

Bullying is no longer only a playground concern. The negative psychological effects of bullying occur in the schoolyard, on college campuses, online and even in the workplace.

David Maxfield, coauthor of the books Crucial Conversations and Influencer, reported that 96 percent of American workers experienced workplace bullying to varying degrees. Maxfield, an expert in corporate culture and success, noticed that the 80 percent of bullies affect at least five people at their workplace.

In observance of Hispanic Heritage Month some of our Latino members reflected on this year’s national theme: “Hispanics: A legacy of history, a present of action and a future of success.”

The history of Hispanics in the United States paved the way for their involvement in communities today. From early political activism and preservation of their native culture, Hispanics have made strides towards better lives for themselves and Americans as a whole.

Our Latino legislators recall how their parents and grandparents moved to Illinois in search of better lives, and how that led them to serve the people of Illinois today.

 

Munoz071614An initiative led by State Senator Tony Munoz (D-Chicago) creating the Law Enforcement Officer Bulletproof Vest Act was signed into law today.

House Bill 5688 requires all law enforcement agencies within the state to provide bulletproof vests as a part of their initial equipment issue for every officer employed.

“We constantly stress how important it is to keep our communities safe,” Munoz said. “This legislation makes sure we’re doing our best to protect those who protect us.”
