immigration reformAfter decades of failed attempts, several state senators celebrated the introduction of an immigration reform bill in the U.S. Senate that addresses the problems affecting thousands of residents represented by these Illinois legislators.

“It’s a good start and we know it will not contain everything we want but, without a doubt, it is a first step to solve the problems faced by millions of immigrants. I’m glad this conversation has started,” said Senator Iris Y. Martinez (D-Chicago).

“It was time to have a law that addresses this issue. Locally, I have seen thousands of my constituents experience great hardship by the lack of action in Washington D.C.,” said Senator Linda Holmes (D-Aurora).

Munoz NLEICHICAGO - State Senator Antonio Muñoz (D - Chicago) joined Governor, Pat Quinn, to announce a $750,000 grant aimed to increase medical job training that will strengthen Illinois’ health care system. Through community-based organizations, this funding will support training for the Certified Nursing Assistant program (CAN) in the state primarily benefiting Latino students.

Governor Quinn thanked Senator Muñoz’s for his leadership in the Illinois General Assembly to devote this funding for this goal. “This is a great opportunity that will help us to fully implement President Obama’s health care reform”, Quinn said.

001munoz copyCHICAGO – State Senator Tony Munoz (D-Chicago) wants to let ComEd customers know there are programs available that may help customers pay their overdue bills.

The CARE Program provides financial assistance to customers who have suffered hardships and may be facing disconnection. ComEd has dedicated $10 million in assistance to help customers.

Grants are available to residential customers with household incomes up to 250 percent of the federal poverty level ($57,625 for a family of four) who demonstrate a hardship – job loss, documented illness, military deployment, senior or disability hardships, among others.

This option may also be available to ComEd customers who receive traditional LIHEAP benefits.
