Munoz120412State Senator Tony Munoz (D-Chicago) passed Senate Resolution 1683 today, which declares December 23, 2014 as Scott’s Law Day.

“I want to encourage everyone to be cautious near emergency scenes and active emergency vehicles,” said Munoz. “We want to make sure law enforcement, firefighters, highway workers and emergency response personnel are able to do their jobs unharmed.”

Scott’s Law protects public safety and service personnel at roadside emergency scenes by enforcing penalties on drivers who cause accidents, injuries, or don’t yield to emergency vehicles.

The legislation was named after Lieutenant Scott Gillen of the Chicago Fire Department, who was struck and killed in 2000 by an intoxicated driver on the Dan Ryan Expressway.
